Padded rudder covers: protect your rudders during transport

388 Views Posted on: 10/09/2026

Rudders are regularly removed, transported and stored with the rest of the sailing equipment.

The Forward Sailing padded rudder covers help protect them against impacts and rubbing during transport and storage.

Particularly suited to the Hobie Cat 16, they can also fit many catamaran and dinghy rudders up to approximately 100 cm long.

Why protect your rudders?

Once removed from the boat, a rudder can easily be placed on the ground, stored in a trailer or transported alongside sails, rigging and other equipment.

Repeated handling can cause rubbing or impacts. A padded cover adds an extra layer of protection around the rudder when it is not fitted to the boat.

Useful protection for everyday sailing

Transport by car or trailer.
Storage between sailing sessions.
Trips to regattas and sailing clubs.
Storage with the rest of your equipment.

Particularly suited to the Hobie Cat 16

These covers are available as part of our range of accessories for the Hobie Cat 16.

On a Hobie 16, the rudders are regularly removed for transport or storage. Protecting them separately makes them easier to store with the rest of the equipment and helps limit direct contact with other parts.

The covers can also fit many other catamarans and dinghies when the rudder dimensions are suitable.

For rudders up to approximately 100 cm

The covers can accommodate rudders up to approximately 100 cm in length.

Compatibility does not depend on length alone. Rudder width and shape can vary depending on the boat, its year and the equipment fitted.

Before ordering

Measure the total length of your rudder.
Check its maximum width.
Take the shape of the head and ends into account.

Simple protection for transport and storage

The Forward Sailing padded rudder covers make it easier to store your rudders while helping protect them against impacts and rubbing during transport.
